1. EVERY CAUSE HAS AN EFFECT
Our attitude towards Mother Nature will determine Mother Nature’s attitude towards us. For every cause there is an effect. Nature treats the same way we are treating her.
Situations seem to happen to people, but in reality, they unfold from deeper karmic causes. The universe unfolds to itself, bringing to bear any cause that needs to be included. Don’t take this process personally. The working out of cause and effect is eternal. You are part of this rising and falling that never ends, and only by riding the wave can you ensure that the waves don’t drown you. ~Deepak Chopra,
2. NON RESISTANCE
Nature, the Sandy storm and all natural disasters are teaching us to resist nothing and to just allow things to happen as they are meant to happen. We can’t force things, we can’t force nature and we can’t force anything in life, we only THINK we can.
3. LET GO OF EXPECTATIONS
When disasters like the Sandy storm happen, we are taught a very important life lesson, and that is to let go of our expectations. Let go of the need to play mental movies on how things should happen, how people should behave, how nature should not be so cruel and how life should not be so unfair.
Whatever is meant to happen will happen and if you are meant to perish in a car accident, while you are sleeping or in the middle of a tornado, you will perish.
Let go of expectations and live the life you’re destined for. Peace comes only when we are true to our soul’s nature. ~Unknown
4. FORGIVE AND FORGET
When a storm of this proportions hits us, we realize what really matters in life and how holding grudges is such a waste of time. Love yourself, forgive yourself. Love those who have treating you unkindly and those who have treating you kindly. Forgive everyone and forget all their faults because there is more to life that.
The only way out of the labyrinth of suffering is to forgive. ~John Green
You can’t resist and you can’t fight against the forces of nature, you can only pray and wait for the storm to pass, patiently. It is in moments like these when you learn how to surrender and to become a patient person, not only with nature but also with your own self, the people around you and life in general.
Do you have the patience to wait till your mud settles and the water is clear? Can you remain unmoving till the right action arises by itself? ~Lao Tzu
6. LOVE & COMPASSION
Whether you are directly involved and affected by a natural disaster or not, whether is storm Sandy or some other natural disaster, you can’t help but feel compassionate towards every living being affected by the fury of Mother Nature, realizing once again that we are all ONE.
Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive.~Dalai Lama
7. LET GO OF ATTACHMENTS
Nothing is ours to keep, not our big and expensive villas, not our beautiful and luxurious cars, not the lives of our families and friends and not our own lives. Nothing is ours to keep and you understand this more strongly than ever in the face of a natural disaster. That is how much power and wisdom lies in natural disasters.
In life, there’s many things that we have to learn to let go. We have to let go of situations, things, memories, people and even ourselves. ~Unknown
8. BUILD YOUR CASTLES IN THE SKY
A lot of us live most of our lives chasing all kind of material things, thinking and believing that once we get all of them we will become happier. As we go about our journey, getting richer and richer and feeling more and more superior than the majority of the population, we forget we once had a heart and we once cared about doing good more than we cared about making money.
It is in moment like these when you realize the importance of building your castles in the sky and not here on the physical level. The castles you build on the physical plane will get washed away sooner or later.
If you built castles in the sky ; your work need not be lost ; that is where they should be. Now, put the foundations under them. ~Henry David Thoreau
9. WE ARE ALL EQUAL
Storm Sandy and all the world’s natural disasters don’t just hit and affect those who are poor, but those who are wealthy as well. There is no separation, only the separation we created in our own minds and if nature decides it is time to clean her home, she will not make any exceptions. For her, we are all one, we are all equal. Help yourself, help those around you and help Mother Earth.
One love, one heart, one destiny. ~Bob Marley
10. WHAT REALLY MATTERS IN LIFE
It’s not about the money, it’s not about the looks, it’s not about the many things we think it is. What really matters in life is to love yourself, love those around you and to allow them to love you back. Planet Earth is our home, not just yours and not just mine. The way you treat yourself, the way you treat others and the way you treat the planet has have a huge impact on each and everyone of us.
Take good care of yourself and your loved ones and take good care of your home planet, it’s the only one you’ve got.
My thoughts go out to those who have been in Sandy’s path these past few days. I know you will all come stronger and more united out if this.
