How would she describe spring to a non-New Orleanian? “How do you describe da Vinci’s Mona Lisa or Michelangelo’s David?” she mused. “Spring is perfection: perfect weather, best foods in season, and people on their front porches saying hello. That’s New Orleans in the spring!”
Here’s are some of Ann’s favorites in the spring:
Ann: I really love the Greek Festival. It’s a little more low key than some of the other festivals and it’s such a beautiful setting next to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Bayou St. John.
Ann: Big Freedia judged the Tales of the Cocktails’ Daiquiri Season competition and I’ve been her biggest fan ever since. She was so generous and her shows capture the true New Orleans spirit of just letting go. She’s at the top of my list for anyone visiting or living in New Orleans. On the other spectrum, I’m a big fan of New Orleans’ songbird, Robin Barnes.
Ann: There are so many great stands that it’s hard to single one out! Nonetheless, Hansen’s Sno-Bliz comes to mind. They do all the classics in addition to bringing new and funky flavors to the table like Thai Basil or Bananas Foster.
Ann: I like to keep things simple with my po-boys…shrimp or oyster from Parkway Bakery & Tavern.
Favorite Happy Hour
Ann: There are far too many to list just one! A couple of my favorites are Cafe Henri and Marcello’s. But honestly, you can't go wrong anywhere. New Orleans is a city made for happy hours.
Favorite Place to Get Boiled Crawfish
Ann: This place is kind of exclusive -- my sister’s house. My brother-in-law can boil with the best of them! There’s nothing better than a fresh pot being poured out in front of you. But if I can't convince them to have a boil, Captain Sid’s in Bucktown is my place.
