Fitness after the ‘holidays’? Personal trainer Tracey Wiley at Drive Sports Performance is waiting for you.

Written by  IntheNOLA.com
New Orleans, the holidays are officially over. We’ve gone through Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, Epiphany, Mardi Gras, and Valentine’s Day…man, it’s like New Orleans goes through six months of holidays!

With all these holidays, in the new year specifically, it can be hard to keep with those resolutions you may have started in the beginning of the year...in particular keeping up with your fitness and exercise goals. If that sounds like you, personal trainer Tracey Wiley is ready to get you back on track.
A wife and mother of two (a 2-year old son and 15-month old daughter), Tracey first got into fitness after meeting Davlin Marshall, owner and lead trainer at Drive Sports Performance about 8 years ago. “I attended Davlin’s group fitness classes and even crashed a few of my girls’ personal training sessions,” smiled Tracey. “You see, I was famous for jumping in and out of classes. I’ve tried a ton of group classes around town and don’t get me wrong, some were great, but nothing ever stuck. Either the trainer lost me, the class was too slow, not enough motivation…the list goes on and on. But when I went to Davlin’s class, it stuck! I really enjoyed his way of training as well as all the crazy stuff he had us doing.”

She continued, “Initially, I got into it because of the rush. I really enjoy the rush! Anything high intensity and I’m there: flipping tires, jumping boxes, battle ropes, etc. Those are the things we would do and I loved it. Once I saw my body changing and I was getting stronger, that just fueled the beast. But what really got me was being out there with a group of women with the same goal: to be fit! When you surround yourself with people who have the same goal and mindset as you, it’s addictive. I loved being out there with those women three times a week. I wanted to be a part of the club.”

And a part of the “club” she is. At Drive Sports Performance, Tracey teaches HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) in addition to personal training. “Since I love anything high intensity, it was only right for me to teach HIIT,” said Tracey. “We do everything from jumping plyometric boxes and using the battle ropes to standard jumping jacks and squats. In this class, I expect you to give me your all! One hundred percent balls to the wall! I’m going to yell, scream, and call you out all while motivating you. The thing I love most about HIIT classes are that they are quick and effective. You’re in and out in 30 minutes, so it’s good for the person on the go. My HIIT Chicks, as I like to call them, come in every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30-6:00pm and we go in! They leave my class feeling powerful, strong, proud, and damn tired! But that’s what I love! I want the woman that would never ever think she would hop on a ploy box or flip a tire in my class! Why?! Because you will do it and when you do it, you will feel damn good because I’m going to make sure you leave all that fear at the door. I’m going to make sure you KNOW how much of a bad ass you are and that you can do anything. You just have to want it!”

As a mother to two little ones, Tracey is always trying to find a good balance. “I would LOVE to say that I have this set schedule where I wake up at 5:00am, meditate, drink a green smoothie, then off to the gym, but I’m not even going to lie to you like that!” she laughed. “I just get it in when I can! There are days that I don’t workout. There are days when I only get a good 10 minutes in. When you have kids, anything can happen. Like a few minutes ago, I tried to workout in my living room and my one year old killed that, so I’ll try again later. Most of the time when I have a client, I try to workout before or after I train. I’m still working on getting up before my family and having that time for myself…I just love sleep!”

In addition to Tracey’s services, Drive Sports Performance (located at 3233 St. Bernard Ave.) offers one-on-one, group, and hybrid training, and many others. “When you step into Drive Sports Performance, be prepared to work,” Tracey said sternly. “One thing we try to make people understand is that yes, you came in here because you want to fit in that dress or you’re going on vacation in a few weeks so you want to be beach ready, but you really want to make a lifestyle change. You want to live a healthy lifestyle for yourself and for the people around you. I tell anyone who starts with me, ‘Look, don’t come to me if you’re not serious about making a change. Don’t come to me if you plan on smacking on Popeye’s after a class because this is a partnership! I expect you to put in the work when you’re with me as well as when you’re not!”

Tracey concluded, “Once you’ve mentally committed to working out and ready to make a lifestyle change, that’s when you honestly can start incorporating physical fitness into your life. And when you do, come see me!”
