NOLA daddies celebrate Father’s Day: Christopher Bland aka DJ Chris Stylez

Written by  IntheNOLA.com
With Father’s Day quickly approaching (that’s right, this Sunday, June 21!), IntheNOLA’s celebrating several different NOLA daddies this month!

Christopher Bland, Bailey Bland (2 years old), and Baby Bland #2 (on the way)

Software trainer by day and DJ Chris Stylez by night, NOLA daddy Christopher Bland is father to baby girl Bailey with another bundle of joy on the way this year!
“The most exciting part about being a father is knowing the role that I play in shaping the life of this fragile, yet brave and courageous little person who will do everything I do, say everything I say, and take that out into the world to be successful,” Christopher said. “And all of that is equally scary as well! But, it’s only scary because you have to watch your choices and make sure each move is towards their positive benefit and growth.”

As a daddy with a growing toddler, Christopher and his family find themselves all over the city. “I enjoy taking Bailey outdoors. She loves the park, zoo, and sports. We go to Audubon a lot because she likes to see the elephants and monkeys, and she can name them. We also go to the Aquarium because she loves the penguins. We’ve been to Pelicans games and she enjoys cheering for the home team. We also enjoy French Quarter Festival; she likes to see the sights, hear the music, and eat snowballs. This year, I’m planning to take her to her first Saints game.”

For those future fathers, “be anxious for nothing and be thankful for everything that’s to come,” Christopher explained. “When that first kid is on the way, you deserve to be excited and nervous, but you have to play it cool! Be as involved as you can with planning, prepping, and picking out anything for your child. Be involved with everything he or she wants to do as they get older. Hold your child when he or she is happy, sad, or indifferent. Be a DAD! Use DAD instincts! They are God-given, but you have to tap into them. You are made to love and your child will need to know what that’s like so they can do that same thing as they get older. Set great examples and do the right thing by people, especially your child’s mother. Children watch everything we do and they will repeat that one day. My mantra is ‘Being a dad is easy,’ so my motivation is to make it so. Also, don’t forget to make time for your child’s mother away from the children and sometimes away from you! It’s vital to your relationship as parents.”

Christopher concluded, “There is no wrong way to be parent as long as you are truly trying to be a parent. You figure things out by trying as much as you can with the right intentions. Act like the man you want your daughter to be with. Be the man you want your son to become. Invest time with them; educate them on a variety of subjects. The examples you set now will make a difference in their life early on and as they grow.”
