The Native’s Guide has been your inside source to some great things lately: Temperature Lunch at the Palace Café and the Heat Index Dinner at Dickie Brennan’s Steakhouse.
Well, last Friday, after the heavens opened and tried to cleanse the city, we were in the mood for a good burger. You know when you get those cravings and no matter what (hell or high water – and the water was really high last Friday), you won’t be satisfied til you get it. So we made the trek from Gentilly through Mid-City to Uptown to try out The Company Burger on Freret, one of the many burger places that have sprouted up in New Orleans in the past year. New Orleans, we had to ask ourselves why were we just now trying The Company Burger for the first time!
Let us explain…you know how ya mama or auntie or whoever makes them homemade patties and homemade French fries? And when you eat them, you get this indescribable feeling that neither McDonald’s nor Burger King can EVER give you? Well, we got that feeling at The Company Burger. We had “The Company Burger” (the classic American cheeseburger - two patties, bread & butter pickles, American cheese, and red onions), “The Single” (bread and butter pickles, American cheese, and red onions), “Lamb Burger” (feta, house basil mayonnaise, red onions, chili mint glaze), “The Company fries,” some “Cane Sugar Coca-Cola” in a bottle, and a can of Abita Amber. And so the journey began…
New Orleans, please don’t tell our mama or our auntie, but these might be the best damn burgers and fries in the whole city! Locally baked buns, antibiotic- and hormone-free beef, local produce (tomatoes, okra, etc.) when available, and a condiment bar to make you go a little crazy, it’s truly a shame that there’s not a Company Burger closer to the IntheNOLA offices in Mid-City (hey, maybe you guys wanna look into that :) ).
Company Burger Fridays seems like a good tradition to start. Think they’ll make an IntheNOLA Burger…hey, stranger things have happened…
