Footprints to Fitness hosts adult coloring event to ‘enhance mental and emotional health through creativity,’ Jan. 15

Written by  IntheNOLA.com
When’s the last time you picked up a crayon, marker, or coloring book? For those of you with young children, you may find yourself coloring on a regular basis, but for other adults, we bet coloring hasn’t been on your list of “things to do” in a very long time!

In a few weeks, health and wellness company Footprints to Fitness with founder April Dupre will host a special event, Coloring & Cocktails, at the Claire Elizabeth Gallery (131 Decatur St.) on January 15 from 12:30pm-2:30pm aimed at “enhancing your mental and emotional health through creativity.”
“At Footprints to Fitness, we want to create new and fun ways to educate others about healthy living and innovative approaches and what better way to highlight those things than by having a fun event focusing on enhancing your mental and emotional health!” explained April.

“Coloring allows us to express our creativity and de-stress and it’s a great way to bond with family and friends. Incorporating coloring or some of your other favorite childhood activities into your routine will help create balance and excitement for your life. As we grow older, we tend to lose touch of that fun, spirited kid we all loved and we turn into adults with responsibilities. Life becomes one big routine with very little spontaneity or creativity.”

At Cocktails & Coloring, be sure to bring your creativity, no matter how much or how little your might think you have! “We’re all about creating unique experiences at Footprints so expect an afternoon of exploring your creativity through adult coloring while enjoying cocktails provided by Old New Orleans Rum,” April added. “We’ll have a wide variety of selections for participants to choose from, ranging from classic characters you grew up idolizing to the coolest abstract designs. And did we mention there would be cocktails?!”

A portion of the proceeds from Cocktails & Coloring will go to Amy’s Art Cart at Children’s Hospital. “Amy’s Art Cart is a very special organization that we’re excited to highlight,” she said. “Claire Elizabeth Gallery owner, Claire Thriffiley, actually started the program in honor of her cousin who passed away. This stylish mobile cart takes supplies around to pediatric patients at Children’s Hospital who are too ill to move from their rooms, providing them with fun therapeutic activities to enhance their creativity.”

April concluded, “At the end of the day, the goal is to help others realize the importance of not neglecting their mental and emotional health. Being present in the moment can be extremely challenging, but once you learn the tools to create a positive and safe space for yourself, it’s life changing. This all ties into the overall mission of Footprints, which is changing the perception of what it means to be healthy and happy, especially in New Orleans.”
