Celebrating a greener New Orleans with LifeCity’s ‘Green Natties: 2nd Annual Sustainable Business Awards’

Written by
Green is the new black nowadays and we certainly think it’s about time! To celebrate all the ‘greeness’ happening in the city, local organization LifeCity is holding their 2nd annual Green Natties Awards to "recognize the efforts of green businesses on their paths to build a more sustainable New Orleans, while celebrating the sustainability community as a whole.”
A membership-based organization, LifeCity “supports the development of green businesses in Louisiana, while educating citizens about sustainable products and services.” In its second year, LifeCity’s Green Natties Awards “is the sustainability event of the season,” explained Charlotte Piper, Operations Director of LifeCity. “The awards came about as a way to incentivize and celebrate the development of sustainable businesses in New Orleans. The Green Natties is a celebration of the people, businesses, and non-profits setting the standard for what is ‘Green in New Orleans.’ It is the culmination of the Green Games, a 6 month-long competition where organizations set sustainability goals and measure their progress over time. Participants are asked to implement initiatives that improve their social and environmental impacts, contributing to the growing impact on the economy in New Orleans.”
Nominees for the Green Natties Awards include some IntheNOLA favorites, such as NOLA Brewing, ZukaBaby, Hollygrove Market & Farm, the New Orleans Food Co-Op, Beaucoup Juice, and tons of others who are on the path to creating a more sustainable New Orleans.
The awards will be handed out this Thursday, May 30 at Eiffel Society. “Guests can expect an unforgettable evening of live music, green libations, culinary treats, special guests, and an award ceremony unlike any other,” said Charlotte. “Guests receive a free drink and free food with entrance as well as access to an exclusive silent auction, including a chance to bid on a WWOZ underwriting package valued at over $4,000! For entertainment, we have Frenchmen St. favorites “Norbert and Raphaël, the Manouche Musette Duo” kicking off the night with their jazzy French canal waltzes, followed by a special awards ceremony hosted by Andrew Ward, host of the NOLA Running of the Bulls and Freret Market.”
Charlotte concluded, “The Green Natties are the Oscars of Sustainability! Green tie and recycled costumers encouraged!”
