A graduate of John F. Kennedy High School, Pepperoni Ray's' owner Raymond Gibson has been making pizza since 1996 when he worked at Dominos Pizza. He said, “When I was at Dominos, I liked what I did and realized I had a passion for it. I learned the ins and outs of the business and figured that I could do this. Wherever I work, I try to see what I can do better. Many places are so commercialized that there’s no real feeling behind the food. It’s put together, they serve it, and we buy it. But I feel as though I can do better than the norm and provide it at a reasonable price.”
 
Pepperoni Ray's first started out in Raymond’s house before moving into the new storefront in the Gentilly neighborhood in September 2011. “I had a little 10x12 space in my house that I turned into a work area with all the equipment,” explained Raymond. “I made flyers and initially did delivery only for about a year until I came across the building we’re in now.”

Raymond is making some of the best pizza Gentilly has ever seen. The sauce is made in-house with fresh ingredients that gives it that special “flavor.” Like any respectable New Orleans business, you know we have to put down our mark and Pepperoni Ray's is no different…InthekNOwlians, y’all have got to try the hot sausage pizza made with Louisiana’s own Patton’s Hot Sausage. Not be outdone, Pepperoni Ray's also has finger-licking good barbeque wings and cheesy bread to compliment any of their pizzas.   
 
For Raymond, supporting his local community is imperative. He said, “Running this business in this neighborhood makes me feel as though I’m making a difference. The customers enjoy the food and I enjoy making it. They are faithful and always come back. When first time customers come in, my employees will ask, ’Do you know him?’ because of the way I approach them and talk to them. I just make them feel welcome, make them feel like they’re family.”
 
It’s been more than 15 years since Raymond first started making pizza, and now with Pepperoni Ray's, he’s got what any local could want…amazing food coupled with good ol’ fashioned New Orleans kindness, all found at this locally owned and operated Gentilly pizza parlor.
