Ur Way Yogurt & Coffee Bar has been almost a year in the making. Cleveland said, “One Sunday afternoon, we were looking for somewhere to grab a sweet snack for dessert. I wanted ice cream, but Kelisha wanted beignets and as you know, the woman always wins! So we went downtown to get some beignets and we walked past a self- serve yogurt place that I never knew existed. I was really intrigued by it and it tasted really good! Then we went back Tuesday and again on Thursday. Within two weeks, I told Kelisha that we should look in to opening a yogurt shop.”
Kelisha added, “We started the process of researching yogurt shops and finding out how many were in the area, which was not very many at all. Then, we started developing the concept further and decided to add the coffee bar. From there, we aggressively started the process for it, putting together a plan, identifying the space, testing different yogurt flavors, coming up with the name, and things like that.”
At Ur Way Yogurt & Coffee Bar, you can expect to have it…Ur Way! “We had a couple of different name concepts and the catchy phrase ‘Ur Way’ overwhelmingly fit with the design of the business and the ability for you to incorporate different flavors that are to your acceptance and delight so that you are literally having it ‘Ur Way,’” Kelisha said.
And we love having it “our way” at Ur Way! We at InthekNOwla find ourselves there at least once a week for the self-serve yogurt, pastries, and coffee. Two of our favorite yogurt flavors are strawberry cheesecake and pink lemonade sorbet (which also happens to be non-dairy). And don’t sleep on the awesome toppings to add to your yogurt: white chocolate chips, gummi bears, pralines, nuts, M&M’s, granola, fresh fruit, condensed milk, honey, and the list just goes on!
Cleveland added, “Also some of the new drinks our baristas are designing have yogurt as a base, which makes for a much smoother frappe. And because we have so many different flavors and syrups that can be added, there are thousands of different drinks that can be made. In fact, we’re the only ones in town with a peaches and cream frappe as well as our praline frappe.”

When you’re at Ur Way, you can be sure to see either Kelisha or Cleveland (or both) making sure their customers are happy. Cleveland said, “We are a coffeehouse, which starts really, really early in the morning and we are a dessert shop which is pretty late at night. Kelisha opens up every morning at 6:30 and we close it every night at 10. It’s important for us to be here because we want to make sure that everyone has a tremendous experience while they’re here as well as really training our team in how we want to do things.”
Kelisha continued, “We always put equal emphasis on both sides of the business, the coffee and the yogurt. So, if you are a coffee fiend and you like high quality coffee, you will be very pleased here. As far as frozen yogurt, we have one of the most expansive toppings bar in the area. All of our fruit on our toppings bar is fresh, nothing canned or frozen. We cut fruit fresh all day everyday. We have a beautiful space with seating to accommodate a lot of people. We can also reserve space in the back where we have had birthday parties, meetings, or simple get-togethers.”
Ur Way is also involved in giving back to the community. “One of the first programs that we are implementing at Ur Way is with local elementary and high schools, as well as non-profit organizations to allow them to have a dessert night that would be themed toward their organization,” explained Kelisha. “A portion of the proceeds earned through a specified period of time is given as a donation to the organization. One of the other things we do is we offer a First Response discount that is applicable to EMT, NOFB, NOPD, and military. We also have a college student discount and we are looking to team up with the art community here and allow some of the local artists to display their work and have a portion of those proceeds donated to an identified non-profit in our name and their name.”
It don’t get no better than that InthekNOwla! Two great locals running a successful business while giving back to their community.
So if you’re in the mood for something hot or cold, sweet or not, come on down to 3001 Tulane Ave. And guess what InthekNOwlians, it’s on the only corner on Tulane where you can make a left turn!
